Oldest School in Rajasthan | Mayo College | 145 Years Old Legacy

"Mayo College" is known as one of the oldest Public Schools in the Rajasthan state which origin dates back to 1869, when "Col. F K M Walter", the Political Agent of the Bharatpur Agency recommended to open a school in India. 


According to the historian in 1870, the "Lord Mayo", the then Viceroy and Governor-General, came to Ajmer, wherein a Darbar, before the Chiefs of the ruling Princes of Rajputana, he expressed his desire to set up a 'Raj Kumar College' in Ajmer, "devoted exclusively to the education of the sons of Chiefs, Princes and leading Thakurs." 


In the year 1875, Richard Southwell Bourke (6th Earl of Mayo), founded the school which is now called "Mayo College".

The College was opened its door in October 1875, with Sir Oliver St. John as the first Principal and one boy, Maharaja Mangal Singh of Alwar.

Mayo College (informally  Mayo) is a boys-only independent boarding school in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India.

Mayo College emblem is known as (Coat of Arms). It was designed by "Lockwood Kipling". He was worked as a principal of the School of Arts, Lahore and he was the father of Rudyard Kipling.

The Mayo College museum is located inside the prestigious Mayo College. 

For a museum of such a quality which belongs to a school, it is surely the best school museum in the world.

The museum has cultural artefacts showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan. It showcasing like Rare Stamps, 14th and 15th-century armoury, Rare diamond, Paintings, Artefacts etc.
